Yorkville – Today, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Kendall County announced it will be receiving $200,000 in federal funding to invest in the development of a CASA clubhouse, a multi-use space serving foster youth and their families and advocates. The Clubhouse will be used as a free, safe location for families to meet during court-ordered visitation. This funding was secured by Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) through a new federal Community Project Funding initiative for Fiscal Year 2022 that allowed Underwood to request direct funding for projects that address some of the most pressing needs throughout northern Illinois. This project was included among 9 others to support our community.
“We are delighted to have received this federal funding to help further our mission of supporting fostered youth and their families,” said a spokesperson from CASA Kendall County. “These investments will allow us to ensure that families have a safe location to meet and connect.”
“Foster youth and their caregivers deserve safe spaces. I am proud to secure funding for
CASA of Kendall County to create the first dedicated space in our district to support the needs of the growing number of foster youth and families in our community,” said Underwood.
Since 1998, CASA Kendall County is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteer citizen advocates to effectively speak to the best interests of abused, neglected and dependent children in Kendall County's juvenile court system. CASA Kendall County believes every child has the right to a safe, permanent and nurturing home. “Our goal is to provide effective advocacy for these children, ensuring their voices never go unheard. We are committed to strengthening the bond children share with their natural family and working towards family preservation, while always keeping the safety of the child as our paramount consideration. We believe the CASA Clubhouse will be an essential tool in Kendall County for minimizing the trauma children suffer during removal by providing them a safe, accessible and “home-like” atmosphere to come together with their family for visits,” said Executive Director -Jennifer Gilbert.
Representative Underwood helped secured funding for 9 other projects that will directly benefit the 14th district. Learn more about the additional projects at https://underwood.house.gov/media/press-releases.
